Abstract

This is a capstone on colonial trauma, and the impacts felt intergenerationally. It looks at three instances – The colonialism of Indigenous in Canada, British colonialism in India, and Russian imperialism in Ukraine. This capstone is on the historical context and ways the legacy of colonialism continues to exist today, impacting people globally. Using a literature review, I explore how trauma is transmitted intergenerationally due to historical policies that have been reshaped, and continue to exist currently. I explore how therapeutic approaches to understanding these impacts can be used to understand the histories of unique individuals. The foundation that has shaped my therapeutic approach is for collaborative conversations and healing in the community.
